AI Literacy is about understanding and applying artificial intelligence within the L&D function. At its core, it involves knowing the basics of AI—how it works, what it can and cannot do, and how it is evolving. It also includes staying informed about new developments and being mindful of ethical considerations, such as the responsible use of AI in learning environments.
A key part of AI Literacy is mastering AI tools. This means understanding which tools are best suited for different learning needs, knowing how to prompt these tools effectively to get accurate and useful results, and being able to evaluate and refine the outputs AI generates. It also involves using these tools strategically to create personalized learning experiences, automate routine tasks, and analyze data for deeper insights, ensuring that their use adds value to the L&D process.
Finally, AI Literacy involves understanding how AI changes the way humans learn. L&D professionals must design experiences that complement AI and intentionally address areas that AI might miss, such as interconnectedness, creativity, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence, among others.
